Sharrow Market shines brightly in gloomy weather

An overcast afternoon sky did not stop the crowds coming out in force for a warmly received Sharrow Vale Market day last Sunday.

The event on Sharrow Vale Road, which is organised by the Sharrow Vale Community Association, showcased a selection of 80 stalls selling everything from arts and crafts, gourmet sausages to local grown foods.

The market, which was returning for its eighth outing, also provided great music from Gemolade and Sunny Gets Blue, Chris Walker and the DJangonaut and a DJ set of classic tunes from DJ Dave.

The event also gave a chance for some of the many shops on Sharrow Vale to open their doors outside regular opening hours.

Jane Baldi, stallholder of Autumn Harvest Mushrooms, said: "The market is not only good for us stall holders and the customers it also helps support the local shops on Sharrow Vale and it great for trade.

"Today has been very good and there has been a lot of regular customers coming back to support the market.

"I have been doing this stall here ever since it began and it is always the same. It is a great market even in bad weather, I think the organisers have got it right."

Aimee Paskins, of Manchester, who attended the market, said: "It was a lovely afternoon spent browsing the stalls from local traders, artists and farmers. There was plenty to look at and there was stalls to suit all the family.

"My favourite part was all the local produce. I particularly enjoyed purchasing some wild boar sausages from the local venison farmer, which I'd never tried before and they were delicious.

"I also enjoyed looking at the watercolour paintings of the local area from the Neo Watercolour stall."

The next market is set to take place on July 15.
