Alex Lowe and Alan McGee at Smart Art GalleriesSubmitted by: Lindsay McLaren
Britpop legend Alan McGee was in Totley on Saturday night, launching an art exhibition by Alex Lowe, one of his former signings.
Back in the 1990s Alex Lowe was the front man of Creation Records act Hurricane #1, but he is now a sought after artist with the likes of Woody Allen, Mike Tyson and Donald Trump all owning originals of his paintings.
Crowds packed the Smart Art Galleries on Baslow Road for the launch, with Andy Hunt from the gallery saying there had been “significant interest” in Alex’s paintings.
I asked Alex what had made him switch from music to art and he said: “I started painting when I wasn’t sure where I wanted my music career to go, and luckily it’s been going really well.”
He went on to say that music would once again be on the agenda: “I’m going to be doing some stuff with Alan again, and getting an album out. Pure rock and roll.”
