Following a hugely successful run at The Crucible, Sheffield Theatres’ production of Democracy will now be available for Michael Frayn fans in London.
The Olivier Award winning play will be performed at The Old Vic Theatre in London’s West End from Friday, June 15 until Saturday, July 14. It marks the first West End transfer under under Daniel Evans’ tenure as Artistic Director.
Performed originally as part of the month-long Michael Frayn season at Sheffield Theatres, and directed by Associate Director Paul Miller, Democracy received widespread critical acclaim.
Democracy marks the first Sheffield Theatres production to transfer to the West End since Fiddler on the Roof took the stage at the Savoy Theatre under Samuel West’s tenure in May 2007, following a sell-out run at the Crucible Theatre in November 2006.
Sheffield Theatres’ Artistic Director Daniel Evans said: “We are thrilled that Democracy will be transferring to London – and even more delighted that its new home will be at one of the capital’s most prestigious theatres, The Old Vic. We are proud to produce high quality work which attracts audiences from the city, the region and beyond, and it is wonderful that this opportunity will allow us to bring our work to an even wider audience.”
