'We work a mile apart in Sheffield - but met in Iraq'
Date: 10/05/2012. Story submitted by: JamesM
When owners of a Sheffield-based company were working in Iraq, the last person they expected to bump into was their local MP from back home.
But that’s exactly what happened to the owners of IT firm MCi Diventi last year, when Heeley MP Meg Munn was leading a UK trade delegation to the Kurdistan region.
She was officially opening the Erbil International Trade Fair, when she met the two Sheffield entrepreneurs.
Now, they’ve invited her to meet with them once more, back in Sheffield, to discuss their work and plans to create jobs in the city.
Meg said: "Our offices in Sheffield are less than a mile apart but we met around
2500 miles away.
“It was great to finally meet Colin and Mike in Sheffield to find out more about their business here in the UK, and to learn about their expansion plans for work overseas.
“Sometimes you have to travel half-way around the world just to meet people from down the road!"
MCi director Colin Mackenzie added: "We were delighted to welcome Meg to our Sheffield offices. We had no idea she would be at the Trade Fair in Kurdistan so it was completely by chance that we got to meet one another.
“We've been looking to expand our work into the region so the trade fair was the ideal place for us to attend."
