A new stage version of the hit British comedy The Full Monty will premiere in Sheffield – the city which inspired it.
Theatre goers can sing along to ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ and ‘Hot Stuff’’ at The Lyceum from Friday, 1 February to Saturday, 23 February 2013 following the announcement from Sheffield Theatres’ Artistic Director Daniel Evans this week.
Daniel said: "Since making my home in Sheffield, I have been eager to bring this funny and heart-warming story back to the city and I am sure this is a theatrical event that will make the whole of
Yorkshire proud."
Oscar-winning, Yorkshire born writer Simon Beaufoy has adapted the screenplay for the stage using songs from the popular film. Simon’s work as a screenwriter includes Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire but The Full Monty will be his first work for the theatre.
He said: "Without Sheffield, there would be no Full Monty. It has been a long road - via Hollywood - but finally the characters are coming back home to the place it all started. We are all genuinely chuffed to bits."
The film is set in Sheffield and tells the story of six unemployed men, four of them former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act to earn enough money for main character, Gaz (played by Robert Carlyle), to be able to see his son.
Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, 26 Mau and cost £9 to £30. Call the box office on 0114 249 6000 or visit the Sheffield Theatres website.
