Rotherham company shakes up taxi freephone market

Templeborough-based company, Berry Cab, has launched Taxi Free Call, a new mobile taxi and private hire freephone service.

Taxi Free Call uses mobile technology, which means the system can be placed anywhere. The trademarked yellow metallic box unit is connected to one company and allows customers to connect to an operator at the push of a button.

Mark Coates, of Wrexham and Prestige Taxis, said: “We’ve worked with local supermarkets and hotels in our area and secured spaces in key entrances, exits and meeting points. Customers simply press the button and come straight through to the office to book a taxi. Taxi Free Call has boosted our calls by 10%.”

Commenting on the launch of Taxi Free Call, Brian McGeachie, Marketing Director at Berry Cab, said: “Most taxi freephone units are large grey booths connected to fixed landlines. Drivers and operators told us many were incorrectly placed and quickly became unused and outdated. Taxi Free Call is a modern flexible alternative.”

He continues: “Most taxi and private hire companies have a splatter-gun approach to advertising with radio stations and newspapers taking the lion’s share of company budgets. Major hurdles such as encouraging customers to remember contact numbers and differentiating from the competition can prove difficult for some to jump.”
