A local art charity is to celebrate the achievements of one of its student interns winning a coveted employment award from the University of Sheffield.

Art in the Park Sheffield will see its intern – and third-year geography student - Kate Holden presented with the Off-Campus Student Employee of the Year award at a ceremony in the Students’ Union later this month.

Kate’s role with the charity comprised of establishing a route across Philadelphia Gardens in the Upperthorpe area that would form a new nature trail, as well as planning locations along the route for signage to be placed.

Along with winners from other categories, Kate will be entered into regional heats for the north-east title.

If she is successful, she will secure a place in the national heats with winners to be announced in summer.

Cassie Kill, events and volunteering co-ordinator for Art in the Park, praised Kate for her hard work.

She said: “The attributes (Kate) brought represent everything a student employee can offer at their best: fresh ideas, dynamism and subject expertise.

"The signage installed leaves a permanent legacy of the quality of her work and that’s something we can be proud of as an organisation.”

Kate was also praised for her professionalism in liaising professionally with potential stakeholders.

The Philadephia Trail aims to link up different areas of the park and to inform walkers about the local history and nature of the green space.

The completion of the nature trail and installation of the signs brings an end to the charity’s two year venture to improve community spaces in the S6 area of Sheffield.

The “Wild Things” project has seen the charity work with local residents and local organisations to host a multitude of community events in the area.
