Bioblitz: go species spotting at Wentworth Castle Gardens© KevinSSubmitted by: KevinS
A bird-ringing demonstration from the Sorby Breck group kicks off Bioblitz at 7.30am today, at Wentworth Castle, near Barnsley.
And over the next 10 hours or so nature enthusiasts and the general public will be able to take part in a wide range of activities including pond-dipping, mammal-tracking and a wildflower walk.
Taking place in the grounds of the park, Bioblitz is a fast-paced, time-limited survey of the local wildlife to see just how many different species people can record in one day.
"Come along and record your speciality wildlife group, build up our species list and add to the count for the day," says Peter Clegg from Wentworth Castle Trust," or just join in with the fun and guided walks."
Alongside experts from Wentworth Castle Trust, Sorby Natural History Society, and the council's Parks Services, visitors will search the park hunting for bugs, bats, birds, butterflies, plants and fungi.
Bioblitz will finish around 5pm. All events are free of charge and a car park charge of £3 applies.
