  • Partners from Irwin Mitchell are preparing for Strictly event at City Hall

Top solicitors from Sheffield law firm Irwin Mitchell are swapping the boardroom for the ballroom to support Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s Do Your Bit campaign.

Ten of the company’s partners have signed up to the charity’s first ever “Weston Park Does Strictly” event, due to be held at the glamorous City Hall Ballroom at Sheffield City Hall on Saturday, November 17.

The ten would-be dancers will start training in July at the City Limits dance studios on Penistone Road in Sheffield, which are owned by Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova of TV’s Strictly Come Dancing fame. After months of preparation each partner will compete with a professional dancer to vie for the much coveted glitter ball trophy.

The Irwin Mitchell partners taking part are Kevin Docherty from the commercial property team, Yogi Amin from public law, Louise Jenkins from the serious injury team, Ruth Wright from court of protection, Suzanne Munroe and David Body from medical law and patients’ rights, Martin Loxley from the family law department, Lisa Gibbs from conveyancing, Gillian Coverley from wills trusts and probate, and Adrian Budgen from the asbestos related disease team.

All money raised from the event, which is sponsored by international law firm, will support Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s Do Your Bit campaign, which aims to raise £1.3 million to enable the building of a state-of-the-art Cancer Research and Treatment Suite at Weston Park Hospital.

Katie Cartwright, who works on business development at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, said: “We know that they are not experienced dancers and that they are all extremely busy, so we really do appreciate them taking on this challenge! This will be a popular, fun and glamorous event, so we would advise booking tickets early to avoid disappointment.”

Martin Loxley, Partner at Irwin Mitchell, said: “Although some of us are completely outside our comfort zone, we want to support an extremely worthwhile charity. We have all been touched by Weston Park Hospital at some point in our relatives or friends lives so helping it raise funds makes us feel proud and repays some of the work it has done for our loved ones. Hopefully we will also have some fun along the way.”

Guests can enjoy a glass of bubbly at the event, followed by a sumptuous two course dinner, whilst being entertained by live music and the big performances from the dancing couples.

Tickets cost £600 for a table of 10 and can be booked by calling the City Hall Box Office on 0114 226 5751.
