The Duke of Devonshire will kick off the celebrations at this year’s Chesterfield Canal Festival.

He will formally open the event at the new Staveley Town Basin which is being held next weekend.

Entertainment - both indoors and out - will include six different bands, dance acts, choirs, performances by drama groups and also a display by the Raptor Foundation Flying Birds of Prey.

On the Saturday night there will be a concert by The Swing Commanders. Tickets for this concert cost £10 and can be bought on the Chesterfield Canal Trust website or by calling (01246) 477569.

There will be children’s rides, Segway rides, bungee trampolines, Carlo the Clown, canoeing, a rope-maker, zorbing and a magician! Plus, dozens of stalls, lots of food stalls and a real ale bar.

Chesterfield Canal Trust will also be running all three of its trip boats. Hollingwood trips can be booked in advance by ringing (01246) 477569. Fares are £5, or £3 for concessions.

Admission to the festival is £3 per person (or free for under 12s) and the event will run from 10am to 5pm each day.
