Hilltop Cars has set up shop in a new Bolsover retail unit which was formerly a public toilet block – creating five new jobs.
The new retail unit was created by Bolsover District Council, and now includes a brand new taxi rank and waiting area.
Bolsover councillor, Alan Tomlinson, said: “This is great news and proves that we were right. Certain individuals and traders said we would never let these premises.
“Well we have and we have replaced what was becoming a health hazard with a brand new retail unit to an expanding business helping to create five new jobs.
“Having a taxi rank in this area will encourage more people into the town and I must congratulate Hilltop Cars in having the foresight to invest in the town during this time of change.”
The old public toilets cost over £18,000 a year and run, and were becoming a risk to the public, with used needles often found in there.
Roger Ward, Business Owner of Hilltop Cars said, “This unit is in ideal spot for us, in the town centre and with taxi bays right outside on our doorstep.
“Relocating the business from Clay Cross to Bolsover has provided us with an excellent opportunity to expand and what with the additional number of customers if the proposed new Morrisons store gets approved, we saw a great business opportunity and have taken a gamble.”
