New figures obtained by Sheffield Lib Dems have added further woe to the council’s plan to cut hours at recycling centres.
The figures reveal that the Blackstock Road site receives the highest tonnage of recyclables of any of Sheffield’s five household waste recycling centres.
However, under the plan put forward by Labour councillors, the Blackstock Road site will be closed three days a week – more than any other centre.
Strikes, which have been called by workers at the five recycling centres, continue.
Coun Simon Clement-Jones, Lib Dem councillor for Beauchief & Greenhill, said: “Local residents in my area are quite rightly furious at the service they’ve been receiving."
Councillors look set to debate the issue at next meeting of Full Council on July 4, 2pm, as Liberal Democrat councillors put forward a motion on the subject.
