Players from the Sheffield Eagles rugby league team have today given a sneak preview of their own interpretation of the haka dance that they are set to perform at this year’s Sheftival festival.
The lads have been given the honour of opening the main stage at Sheftival, Yorkshire’s biggest celebration of music and sport at Don Valley Stadium and will perform the traditional Samoan Haka in front of thousands of people.
Winger, Tim Bergin, 26, said: “We first performed this at our awards dinner and received a great response. It became a big hit on You Tube so we thought it would be a great thing to do at Sheftival to raise the profile of the Sheffield Eagles.”
Choreographed by team mates Quentin and Misi the lads will present a five minute version of a traditional Samoan dance with their own, rather unique twist.
Tim added: “It’s going to be crazy opening the music stage ahead of Rizzle Kicks and Stooshe. It will be a big test but we’re all really excited!”
As well as their big performance of the Haka the Sheffield Eagles will also be around to promote their rugby and encourage people to pick up the ball and have a go.
There will be coaching clinics with prolific Eagles goal kicker and head coach Mark Aston and tag team games where everyone can get involved.
