A small fire has damaged a stairwell in a block of flats in Broomhall, Sheffield.

Firefighters from Central station were called to the top (third) floor of the Clarence Block on Exeter Drive, and found a pile of wood had been deliberately set on fire next to a rubbish chute.

They quickly put out the fire but there was some damage to the flooring and side of the chute.

There was no threat to any of the residents, none of whom were evacuated.
