Eid celebrations set for Broomhall
Date: 18/08/2012. Story submitted by: Jordan Cullen
Broomhall’s first Eid party is set to take place on Sunday with hopes to raise funds toward the building of Broomhall’s first mosque.
The party, which celebrates the end of Ramadan, the traditional Islamic month of fasting, takes place at Springfield Primary School on Broomspring Lane.
Entertainment will include a barbecue, bouncy castle, bumper cars, rodeo bull, bungee runs, henna and face painting. It is hoped the day will close with a firework display, weather permitting.
Khalid Ismail, an organiser for the event, says the party is open to all members of Sheffield’s community. “It will allow families to enjoy themselves in a vibrant atmosphere, [but] you will be more than welcome to just sit around and to have a BBQ whilst getting to know other community members.”
Profits from the day will contribute towards a building fund for Broomhall’s first mosque, although no fundraising targets have been set.
“The aim of the Eid party is to bring Sheffield’s diverse community together and to celebrate this blessed day,” says Ismail.
“Thousands of people have been invited and we look forward to celebrating with everyone. Let’s just hope the weather is on our side.”
The party begins at Springfield Primary School around 12.30pm and entrance is £6. For further information, please call 079 5812 9468 (Brs.) or 074 3277 2231 (Sis.).
