Budding cyclists wanting to follow in the footsteps of their Olympic idols Bradley Wiggins, Laura Trott and Chris Hoy, are being urged to attend a free road craft session to keep them safe and well.
“It’s great that more and more people are taking to two wheels inspired by the Olympics,” said Ken Woodhouse of Pedal Ready, a South Yorkshire cycling co-operative.
“But to make sure they enjoy their cycling, we think every new Rotherham cyclist should book on to a free cycling commuter skills session.”
Taking a National Standard road craft session improves confidence for cyclists by showing them how to confidently share the road with drivers, and government studies show that taking a professional road craft session more than halves the already small risks of road cycling.
“By learning some simple strategies, which aren’t always obvious, you can usually cut out problems before they happen and get on with the traffic around you,” said Ken Woodhouse.
“We’ve worked with over 1500 adults so far in South Yorkshire, and everyone we skill up says they feel more confident in traffic afterwards. Every cyclist should take part: it‘s free, and you’ll feel safer and happier on your bike. What have you got to lose?”
Free road craft sessions for cyclists are available for all residents and workers in Rotherham thanks to Rotherham Council. To take part ring 0114 2412775, visit the website below or email firstname.lastname@example.org
