A host of Sheffield musicians will make a special appearance during the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run on September 2.

Acts including Feelix, Pallav Roy, the Sheffield Wednesday and England Kop Band, the Albion Choir, Zaffirelli, The Coachmen and Concord Youth Music will spur on the runners in the 10K race.

A range of bands and acts will also perform in the Peace Gardens in the city centre from 11am to 4pm.

Kat Eaton and Nick Atkinson of Woodseats band Feelix say they are really looking forward to taking part.

Vocalist Kat said: “It’s a great opportunity for us and it’s lovely to be patriotic about our city.

“Nick and I met at school when we were 16 and we’ve been writing since then and developing our sound. We’re releasing our debut album on September 1 at a gig at The Greystones so we’ve got lots of exciting stuff coming up as well as the Great Yorkshire Run.”

About 4,000 people so far have signed up to do the run, which starts on Arundel Gate before heading along Penistone Road to Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough Stadium then returning to the city centre.

Great Yorkshire Run representative Kerry Hanson said the ‘Bands on the Run’ will add something extra to the special event, which is raising money for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and Diabetes UK.

She said: “We’re going to have up to ten bands on the course. It’s a big variety and there’s something for everyone. It’s going to be great and I’m really looking forward to it – I just hope it’s nice weather!”

And Coun Isobel Bowler, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, said: “The live music has been a successful addition to the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run, providing a special atmosphere to the day.

“It will offer entertainment around the 10K course and in the city centre to make the event a special family fun day for everyone coming to Sheffield.”

As well as the main adult event, there is also a Mini Great Yorkshire Run for three to eight year olds, and a junior run for children aged nine to 15.

Places are still available to take part on the day. Anyone interested in running can enter online now at the link below.
