Police in Sheffield have been using an iPhone app to track down criminals.
Officers have traced four stolen phones using the ‘find my iPhone’ app in the last week alone.
The latest crime to be solved in this unusual manner was a burglary on Sunday night at Lowedges Crescent.
The victim’s iPhone was traced to an address nearby and a suspect, a 19-year-old man, was arrested. All the suspected stolen property was recovered and Sheffield Homes is also taking action against the suspected burglar.
Insp Ian Stubbs of South Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “There have been a number of good results across the city recently using the iPhone app. It works really well so burglars beware.
“There have been four cases to my knowledge in the last week where the police have been able to trace stolen phones using this app.
“It is an excellent tool to assist us to recover stolen property and I would encourage anyone with an iPhone or iPad to use this app. It can pinpoint the location with great accuracy even down to the elevation - for example we can even identify which floor of a property the phone is located.”
